Are you getting married?

I had plenty of ideas for a Blog once that crazy week ended, one of the top one being about the Michigan-OSU game. However, I heard something in the two weekend parties that I went that is quite intruiging as well as funny.

December is fast approaching and as many know, it is time for desi grad students to visit home, or to 'go to India' as they say. Many of my friends are taking this opportunity as well. One of the notions prevelant among the non-desi people here is that if a desi student is going to visit his home country he is going to get married! So there is this guy in statistics department who has been subject to an -"Okay! So you are getting married!"- everytime someone finds out that he is visiting India. I first heard this from him on Friday night but similar stories were repeated by other people I met on Saturday as well. That brought memories of last Christmas which I and Pinku spent with an Amecian family. We had to answer a barrage of questions ( followed by chuckles) about the arranged marriage thing, from both Americans as well as Chinese students present there.
